You might be thinking I’ve totally lost my mind. I don’t blame you one bit
Normally I can’t stand when blogs share their monthly income. For years I have seen it become more and more popular and I thought to myself “how obnoxious, they are just bragging!” and I refused to read them. Lately though I have been finding them more and more interesting. You can learn a lot about a blog from the income report. So finally I broke down and decided I was going to share my income report as well.
Let me be clear: this is not intended to be a brag. Far from it. In fact, my blog income is significantly smaller than many of the “big” blogs. Still, I wanted to share this information, mostly for other bloggers or those who are interested in starting a blog. It’s important to note that as a blogger, your income comes from MANY different places. Unlike my previous “9-5” gig, where I got a paycheck every two weeks, blogging is more…diversified.
This is my breakdown for the month of August 2015. I haven’t been blogging much lately, my work as a VA (virtual assistant) has kept me busy and I have been dealing with some things in my personal life, so there haven’t been as many posts on my blog as usual. As a result, the amounts you see for things like ad networks and affiliate income will vary greatly from month to month.
I have included my VA income as well. The reason for that is I know a lot of people are interested in both blogging and virtual assisting as a job or a side hustle, so I wanted to show you what that income looks like included in my breakdown.
Google Adsense: $36.23
Sponsored Posts: $475
Virtual Assisting: $1226.25
* Review Products: $2931.50
(Total Cash: $1832.91)
Grand Total: $4764.41
* I included the value of products I was given in exchange for review. I do not do paid reviews-I believe they tend to be biased, no monetary payment was given to me for the reviews. The dollar amount shown is the total retail price for the items I received to review (and subsequently keep).
Technically speaking, this is a slow month for cash income, but an unusually high month for review products. I received a big ticket item to review (and will be posting about that shortly!) but since I haven’t been posting much, my other income is low.
I did not list out affiliate networks that I belong if I did not make any money with them. I belong to Amazon Affiliates Network, as well as a few others and I will list them in future months as there is income generated.
I have been blogging off and on for about 4 years now. My blog averages about 40,000-50,000 page views per month, to help you gauge the income to my traffic.
I’m happy to answer any questions you have-I’m certainly not a blogging expert, but I am happy to share what I know!
